Jake's Journey Home
Jake came to The Happy Pet Project in early 2022, not long after we saved our very first dog.
He was dangerously underweight, had patchy fur, and had recently gone blind—all because his diabetes had gone untreated.
As a new rescue, taking on a diabetic senior dog was a risk. The cost of ongoing medical care was significant, but when we met Jake, we knew he still had so much life left to live. Thanks to the incredible support of our community, we were able to provide him the time, care, and insulin he needed to regain his health.

Despite his blindness, Jake quickly showed us his zest for life. He loved playing fetch, taking long walks with his favorite toy and making new friends. We recently received an Embark Age Test and it estimates that Jake was actually almost 13 years old compared to the 8 years that had originally been given by vet partners. Showing us once again, that despite his medical needs and age, he lived life to the absolute fullest!
His charming personality and unshakeable spirit won the hearts of everyone he met during his time with us.

Over the years, Jake helped celebrate over 200 dogs as they found their second chance at happiness while
he patiently waited nearly 900 days for his own forever home.
Recently, Jake was diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma and given only a short time left with us. The news was heartbreaking for all who had been part of Jake’s journey.
His foster family gave him the ultimate bucket list weekend, starting by officially adopting him. He visited the farmers market, enjoyed unlimited toys, and had his own cake and burger. With a full heart and surrounded by love, he peacefully said goodbye in the arms of his family.

Jake’s story is a testament to the incredible spirit of dogs, even when life had been unkind. Though we thought Jake was waiting so long for his chance at happiness, he showed us that he had found joy all along.
His true home was in the hearts of everyone who loved him, and in the end, he was already where he belonged.
In memory of Jake, we encourage you to open your heart to the seniors, the medically needy, and the overlooked—because they, too, have so much life left to live.
